The summer was a stormy one the clouds had covered up the sun Got your record going round Curse the wicked world to drown With your cover and your sleeve you gave us something to believe Shake the shiver from our soul Keep us warm as we grow old Hands tangled in her hair The kids are going nowhere She's got her hi fi on Let the girl be gone

My Man is better than yours My man knows what's in store He bought me a Tommy gun with a hundred round drum In case I get trigger happy when the zombies come My man is always prepared My man shows me he cares He bought me some powdered eggs and freeze-dried ice cream And I'll be sipping chocolate cake while you're eating Soylent Green And when Armageddon comes We'll throw our own Apocalypse He can be my Omega Man I'll be his Mila Jovovich My man keeps himself clean My man his senses are keen He keeps a lookout so that I can get my sleep But this one eye open gig is giving me the creeps So get the bug out bag and you can't forget The bio suit for the family cat Just keep your powder dry and your canteen wet We're like Romero and Juliet

Don't love me that way Take a spin around my block like your some kind of tourist Don't love me that way Skip all of my verses just to get to the chorus Don't love me that way Don't love me that way Don't love me that way Don't love me that way Don't look at me that way Like there's some pretty thing just over my shoulder Don't look at me that way Like you want to trade up 'cause I'm just getting older Don't look at me that way Don't look at me that way Don't look at me that way Don't look at me that way Don't kiss me that way Just walk out the door, I don't want to see you no more You're gonna miss me someday When your heart has no home and you're sleeping all alone Because you loved me that way You loved me that way You loved me that way You loved me that way You loved me that way Don't love me that way

Pop Rocks 04:16
We were kids what did we know? You don't put jump seats in El Caminos But the man at the wheel could never hurt us He could circumvent the laws of inertia And the Earth turned under our spokes We got abraded but we never broke And we rode down to the five and dime to buy pop rocks and coke 'Cause we heard that some kid died doing that Now our heads are far from our feet We should walk like giants down the street But the sky is always falling on our heads And we count the monsters underneath our bed We're gonna crash into the terminal with no guarantees or miracles Why don't we take a breath and laugh like we only have a minute left? Let the Earth turn under our spokes Let's get abraded and let's go broke Let's ride down to the five and dime to buy pop rocks and coke 'Cause you know that we won't die doing that Yeah you know that we won't die doing that.

Glitter on the water Flash bulbs on the shore How did it feel to slip in your heels? I never thought of it before I tripped on the hem of my prom dress First kiss fresh on my lips You made a scene for Seventeen When your tiara started to slip When you gonna get a grip? Girl you better get a grip Let's burn all your photographs and hit the road Play princess in Vegas and marry a toad Break all the laws but gravity Don't you sparkle and fall You pretty thing Who asked you wanted? Who told you who to be? Did they lead you here? Did they sound sincere? Do they love a good tragedy? I tripped on the hem of my prom dress First kiss fresh on my lips Who makes a scene for Seventeen When their tiara is starting to slip? When you gonna get a grip? Girl you better get a grip

You took off out the door with a suitcase in your hand You got shook to the core by some brown-eyed handsome man And from the buttons on your blouse to the buckles on your shoes You got his scent all over you You don't wanna listen to your mama now do you? But I got one last thing to say Take his sickness with your health And his poverty of wealth But girl you don't ever obey Treat him rough Tell him nothing Make him beg for every little bit of your lovin' Taunt and tease him Never please him Treat him rough Tell him nothing I thought we were perfect lovers he only brought me harm Digging through empty cupboards with a baby in my arms So always shoot first Love a good fight And if he leaves you on a cold December night You'll know why Treat him rough Tell him nothing Make him beg for every little bit of your lovin' Don't get angry Just get even Treat him rough Tell him nothing

Sara Jane 04:48
Stumbled on a busker while headed for the west bound train Sounded so familiar, said her name was Sara Jane And she grew up not far from me in the hills of Tennessee I don't quite recall what compelled me to leave my state I'll give you stats and economics but I can't articulate How I got lost in the urban sprawl Lost my southern drawl Sing my soul Sara Jane 'Cause I don't even know my own name And carry me home in your guitar case With some Amazing Grace She grew up in a hollow where the ridge was the edge of the world Dreamed of climbing over since she was a little girl To take a road trip and see the sights With her best friend Jesus Christ I used to call him but I can't get his signal round here Out in the country he used to come in so clear Now God's a philosophy written on my tin of Chai tea I don't know what I mean but I know my lines Chapter and verse from the New York Times I follow street lights sidewalks and cars But I turned out the stars Sing my soul Sara Jane 'Cause I don't even know my own name I wanna throw my arms up at it all I wanna come down for an altar call Welcome me back to the human race with some Amazing Grace

Only five more miles til we cross the state line Only five more fenced-in amber waves of grain Do you feel sick from the motion girls? Do we need to stop again? Only five more water towers til we find our exit sign Only five more letters in our little alphabet game Don't forget the sunset over the ocean girls But watch the smoke coming from the train Remember when there used to be a man in there Who would wave at you from the red caboose? And the wheels would scream loud and loose as over the pavement You blew a kiss to a stranger. Always blowing kisses to strangers Oh to be loved and lost it gets easier You get used to it This broken pavement is covered with rocks But we'll move with it We'll just move with it I've been living in this town to long I want to get in my car and drive Open the windows while it's raining Just to feel alive Funny how headed West on I 40 to the wrong side of the Mississippi It's like you're headed for America's great Purgatory How do find peace of mind in Arkansas? I used to dream of Oklahoma

Myopia 03:58
Line me up against a wall Pummel me in verbal Battle Ball Use my country my city and my town To prop me up and knock me down I knew my name I knew my street I knew the door that fit my key So drunk and blind on tonic and spin What kind of state will I wake up in? Myopia, crown me queen Of all the minuscule things Keep your spectacles I don't want your scenes I took your side I played your games Then you came into my kitchen and called me names So fun to play the devil's advocate Until you got just too damn good at it I'm tired of trying to make sense Of your state of mind your mama and current events Tired of watching Truth putting on his pants He was never gonna take me out to dance Myopia, crown me queen Of all the minuscule things Keep your spectacles I don't want your scenes I want to raise my glass to oblivion And find myself some better friends My my my my my Myopia

I brought a picture for you Circa 1952 You in your tie Me in my Summer dress I put it in your pocket Now the black and white has faded to gray The babies think we were made that way But before our home and Kodachrome Teenage lovers Painted all our colors We didn't have money but we had time A plastic rose from the five and dime And a little tin ring on a piece of string Traded in for the real thing Photographs in antique stores Who knows those faces anymore? Sold to those who they don't vaguely resemble It should make us tremble So I brought this picture for you You and I in '52 You in your tie Me in my Summer dress I put it in your pocket I put it in your pocket
